The Rolleicord V is a medium format Twin Lens Reflex (TLR) film camera introduced in 1954. TLR cameras were first made by Rollei in 1928. As the name suggests, TLRs features two lenses, an upper “viewing” lens and a lower 75mm “taking” lens. The camera produces large 6×6 cm square negatives which provide more detail and resolution than 35mm negatives. The Rolleicord TLRs were slightly scaled down versions of the more famous Rolleiflex cameras. This is another of my father’s cameras and the only TLR (and medium format) camera I own in my collection (having sold my Fuji GA 645zi). In 2016, while on vacation in California, I brought this camera and my Rollei 35 to be CLA’d (cleaned, lubricated & adjusted) by Harry Fleenor of Oceanside Camera Repair – one of the best Rollei repair shops in North America. In addition to doing a CLA, he installed a new Maxwell focusing screen which significantly improved the brightness of the focusing screen and usability of the camera. Despite the lack of a built-in meter to assist with determining correct exposure, I have always been impressed with the images taken with this camera. This and my father’s Rollei 35 are the two cameras I will never sell.
